James Wight, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan recently tested hybrid reinforcing in coupling beams where Helix® is used to reduce the amount of conventional reinforcing while increasing structural performance.
"We tested a four story concrete structure in the lab under severe lateral pressures", said Professor Wight. "We had a sustained peak load of over 250,000 pounds and maintained this up to very large drift levels as high as 3%."
